Harmony
Riders and ‘Saddle Up For St. Jude' raise over
$4,200! |
More than 30 riders joined together at Harmony Riders
Association in Parish, NY for their third annual “Saddle
Up! For St. Jude” fundraiser trail ride June
28th, 2008. The group raised more than $4,200 for
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which
treats and finds cures for children with cancer and
other catastrophic illnesses.
In addition to the riders,
many businesses from around the area donated door
prizes and raffle items and many volunteers assisted
with the activities. Wayne “Joe” Bouyea
and family participated as lead trail boss for the
ride. In addition, the Bouyeas donated the pig for
the evening pig roast while Jim Lloyd and his trusty
canine Bandit, spent the day cooking it.
Despite the inclement weather
the day was a huge success. Riders waited patiently
for the weather to break and enjoyed each others company
in the clubhouse on Harmony’s grounds. After
lunch everyone tacked up their horses and began the
afternoon ride with camaraderie in the air. Though
the riders got wet before their return to camp, spirits
were high and the evening’s events were looking
up. MORE...>

Harmony
Riders Association,Inc. was founded in 1954 in Phoenix, New
York. The objective of the club was "to further the association
of persons interested in pleasure horses and to promote social
activities in the connection with the use of horses for pleasure
and showing", as stated in our club by-laws. Early meetings
and horse shows of the organization were held in various locations
throughout Oswego County.
In
1957 a building fund was started to establish a permanent
club facility. On May 29, 1959 one hundred acres of land was
purchased on Shelter Road in Parish, NY from the heirs of
the late Jim Shelter, for the sum of one dollar. The deed
to the land was recorded in June of 1959 and in 1960 the clubhouse
was built. The pole barn was built in 1968. In 1994 the upper
barn was built. Improvements to the facility, is an ongoing
commitment to the membership. |

Members
have personal permanent campsites, many early members have
fond memories of spending the summer camping with their families
on the grounds, riding their horses and swimming in the near
by creek.
Open Horse Shows were held throughout the show season, as
well as organized trail rides on well groomed trails. Dances
were held after the shows in the main arena, club archives
contain photographs of square dancing on horseback!
The club has always been maintained as a family oriented organization.
